May 13 AH, the Mother's Day memories...If you weren't around last year....
May 2006
Finally, Mother's Day…Nate made an AMAZING brunch which we enjoyed outside, the boys gave me some wonderful gifts (new cooley flip flops, great lotion to combat the crazy hand washing we do, and Godiva!), Audrey had a great morning, and I got to share all of this with my mama! She got Godiva too! It was her last day here for awhile as she went back to work and my dad is taking the boys back to SA on Friday (she'll return for the last week of May). Can you even believe how fortunate we are to have them in our life? They've really been AMAZING and we are beyond thankful for their help; getting to spend so much time with Audrey and not worry about the boys daily stuff has really made a difference. It was a good thing it was mom's last day here though as the afternoon brought us some interesting visitors whom she would not have been excited about…. Here was our afternoon--we leave the hospital thinking the surgeon isn't going to get in to do her central line only to get a phone call as we are a minute from home that he's ready to get started. We panic not wanting our daughter to have a procedure without us there but decide to get home, let me pump and then head back. The boys and Papa are swimming when we get there so I go to pump and Nate hangs out with them. I'm nearly finished' when I hear, "Bob, big snake, Bob, oh man, get over here" Yes, that's right, a HUGE snake is by the pool equipment and upon further inspection, it's TWO huge snakes, apparently a mating couple! I'm running around trying to find a number for animal control, get my 2 neighbors over and finally animal control who removes them without incident. In the mean time, I've picked up Jason wrong and have terrible abdominal pain which freaks us out enough to call my doc about it, all the while realizing that Audrey's procedure is probably over and we haven't heard about it yet, UGH!! Obviously, I turned out to be fine, Audrey's procedure went fine, although it was the start of her desat, and the snakes were relocated, but man, WAY TOO much drama!! And don't forget how the weekend started, with Nate's wrist incident; he's much better now, didn't even go to the orthopedic doc. How could we top that you ask? Well for starters, Audrey is home now and healthy and while that trumps just about everything, we still had to have a little drama on Mother's Day, it just wouldn't be the Millers without it, right?! Before I get to that though I do want to mention how much we miss sharing our day with Penny, she would have gotten the biggest kick out of the craziness that is our life. It's our first Mother's Day without her and we missed her a lot today. We miss her everyday. I'm crying now so I'm going to move on to our little fiasco this morning....
We went to Taco Diner for breakfast at The Shops of Legacy and then for a walk around lake (one of our favorite, regular activities), Audrey sitting proudly in my gift—a new jogging stroller. We stop to look at the fish on the side with the steps going into the water. I park AJ while the boys and I walk closer the water, I don’t put the brake on as Nate had told me to about five times already. 2 seconds later, Audrey and the new stroller are careening down the steps into the lake and I dive after falling completely into the water while the stroller barely gets in over the wheels. Audrey gets wet only from the splash of her mother falling in. Nate pulls the stroller back and I climb out sopping wet with my ankle cut, bruised and throbbing. Audrey is totally fine but now upset from the commotion and splash. Ethan says, “that would have totally won on America’s Funniest Home Videos, I wish we had the camera”. My husband goes into a “I told you so” (about the brake) and this wonderful woman comes over to say she saw the whole thing, am I okay, what a wonderful testament to a mother’s love (trying to rescue my baby), and Happy Mother’s Day. NICE. The FAR walk back to the parking garage was wonderful as was my smart-ass husband complaining the whole way home that his foot was wet. Ugh! Nate tried to get me to reinact my part for the camera, but sorry, I refused! He says his version may be his reentry into the blogging world, I'm hoping not but will let you know if he breaks his blogging silence.
I hope everyone had a wonderful, dry, calm Mother's Day! I'm working still on sharing more about Audrey's amazing birthday party but I did at least get the pics up. Also, Gunther had baby RC on Audrey's birthday, so welcome dear one! I got to see him this weekend and oh! what a perfect gift he is! I also had a girls' night with my friend Amy AND a hotel stay BY MYSELF (slept until 9AM!!!, bliss!) It was a banner Mother's Day weekend, dispite my dive today. OH yeah, I finally heard our radio ad on the radio too! It was very goosebumpy for me. My friend Shawn, who is WAY more saavy than I, created a way for y'all to hear it too, check it out !
I think I have the final for the billboards and buses too, but I'm going to wait until I know for sure that it's final.
Lots o love,
Jenn
May 07 WOW!The party was SO, SO wonderful! I promise to find time tomorrow to post all the pictures and share everything, but for now I posted a sneak peak and the following thanks to those who really made this party happen or helped out TREMENDOUSLY there...my folks, the Fischer Family, the Jackson girls (one's a Bunger now), Caprice, The Bengis Family, and Erin and Kyle--THANK YOU!!!
Also, I wrote the following letter to Audrey earlier this week and thought I'd share it...
Dear Audrey, Tonight we shared an incredible moment and it speaks volumes of who you are turning out to be… You have yet another cold with wheezing and double ear infections and I put you to bed quickly after not being able to finish your feed because you were SO fussy. You were great all day but tonight you were just done and bed was the only solution. As soon as I put you down you settled immediately with your blankie. I went back in your room about 30 minutes later to finish your feed. You rarely wake up when we come to mess with you (breathing treatment, gavage feed, meds, start your continuous feed, etc) but tonight you stirred, looked and me and then started to roll over like always. As I started to attach the syringe to your tube, you turn back slyly and giggled. It was like you were trying to pretend you were asleep but you just couldn’t contain yourself. You stayed awake the whole feed just smiling and giggling like what I was doing was the funniest thing ever (which really, it is—you better start eating soon ‘cause I know you can!!!). As soon as the feed was over, we played a little bit longer and then I tucked you in. It was the sweetest thing ever. You’re such a funny little sprite. Your birthday is fast approaching (2 more days!) and I have been reflecting on our year. Tonight’s crib party after such a tough evening was yet another example of what a superstar you are. To have endured so much and still be the loving, forgiving, resilient, charming sweetheart that you are is a true testament to the bountiful strength of your being. I am beyond proud to your mama Audrey Jane and I love you to the moon and back.
Love, Mommy May 05 Happy Birthday Sweet Girl! What a year it has been! I only have a minute as her party is today (pray for no rain!!) but I wanted to get some pics up from her big day and say thanks. Thanks for the role you played in getting us here. Last year on May 3rd I believed we would be here, by May 5th, I wasn't so sure. Despite her ROUGH start and some dicey moments since then, she IS here and the gratitude I feel for that is wordless. Happy Birthday Audrey Jane Miller, I'm proud to be your mama! May 03 I LOVE electricityTonight the power went out around 7ish. The kids did great, me? NOT so much. I am a serial procrastinator and tonight was my night to get LOTS done for Saturday's big party. I read by flashlight and then fell asleep around 11. The power came back on at 1ish. Audrey's feeding pump lost battery power around 2 (alarming LOUDLY) then she woke up coughing at 3, couldn't get resettled until 4 and here I sit now (almost 6) still not getting much done except picture updates (see 2 new albums!) and starting to panic that today won't get me anywhere now that I've been up ALL night, ugh. I am SO happy the power is back though
I'm going to go try to get a few winks before everyone else get up. LOVE all the calls and emails about the radio ad; apparently KLUV 98.7 is the best bet to hear it on. I still haven't heard it myself though. And, no it's not my voice, they hired "talent" for that; apparently my voice isn't so radio!!! One more thing--got a call from Gunther around 9 saying she thought the baby may be on his way!!! Can't wait to hear.
