Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl...

    Lola, L-O-L-A, Lola
I haven't had a minute to listen the other Lola song my Aunt suggested but I'm sure when I do, it will run thorugh my head constantly too.

Oh y'all!  I didn't think I'd ever love another dog.  Little Lola (hee hee, little!) has shattered that notion to smithereens!  Phoebe will always be the gold standard around here but Lola has already found her place in our family.  All 32 pounds of her!!  She is a hoss.
For those of you who haven't been blessed to hear the sweet sound of a bulldog snoring, enjoy...(note how the phone ringing does nothing to disturb her!)

    We're in love

Despite my severe reservations, how could we not love a face like this?

A new Miller arrived today.  She doesn't have an official name yet, but we're playing with Lulu or Lola right now.  Her first home named her Cinnamon but it just doesn't seem to fit and she doesn't respond to it so, we're trying out some new ones.  Feel free to weigh in, we'd love to do something fitting to her color--all white with a red top and bottom but Lucy was our best shot and it just didn't seem to fit either.  Help!  More later...

Interrupted sleep is the same as no sleep

It's been a rough sleeping week here in Miller land; Audrey has a drainage cough that would make a 70 year old smoker shudder.  Poor kiddo can not stop coughing and we haven't found a med that stifles it either.  Neither she nor I have gotten more than a 3 hour stretch of sleep all week.  It amazes me how well I lived this way for her first 8 months (as well as each of boys' first 3) because one week of it and I'm barely able to function.

The cold isn't in her lungs yet but has diminished her left's breath sounds so we're doing breathing treatments and she's on antibiotics for a sinus infection.  Her weight is down another 2 oz too so we're beefing up her boluses.  It's such a vicious cycle for her...nutrition gets low, she gets sick, hard to get more in her (vomiting restarts), so she can't get over illness, rinse, repeat. ugh!  She really is doing well with this though, if you didn't hear her cough (and she doesn't much during the day), you wouldn't know she doesn't feel great (ie she's still going 100 miles/minute!)  These past couple of weeks have just been a reminder that despite how great she's doing, she still has some fragileness to her.  Her weight loss more than anything is what is my constant reminder; without any fat on her, you can see every rib and therefore the clear difference in her left ribcage.  You can see how her bones were literally pushed out because of the extra "stuff" that lived up there pre-repair.

Of course as always, we are happy to have such small issues and to be so far from the beginning of our journey.  I'm following a few CDH babies still and there is a new one who has just captured my heart with his powerful fight.  Baby Seth's parents were told earlier this week that there wasn't anything else to be done for him.  He apparently had other plans and has been successfully taken off ECMO!  GO Seth!  Send some thoughts to him and his family as they continue the fight.

I have another family I've been wanting to share as well.  The Meltz Family from my hometown in Wisconsin are fighting their sweet 3-year-old Hailey's brain tumor.  Her daddy, Brian, was a dear friend of mine back in the day.  Please take the time to read their story.  You will be touched beyond words.
