    Crack Literature

You've heard of "chick lit", right?  Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series is "crack lit"; you CAN. NOT. put these books down and you're hooked after just one chapter.  I let Audrey in the pool today without me so I could sneak a few sentences in between every glance at her!  She had a floatie and her 4-year-old-incrediblely-gifted-swimmer brother with her, she was fine ;-)

I have to admit, I've been reading them on the down low.  The first time I tried to sell it, I got a giggle, "you're reading a teen vampire romance? mmm, no thanks"  Even Audrey's 22-year-old nurse turned her nose up at me.  She's a convert though, and is even further than me now!  Yesterday she finished the second one, New Moon and when I told her I was only on pg 150 of the third, Eclipse, she went out and bought her own copy!  Cristin's post yesterday has convinced me to own my addiction and try to share it with you.  I know I'm late to the party, but perhaps you are too.  If so, you can thank me later, right now go get your hands on the first one, Twilight!  I'm off to mainline some more (that's a legit drug term, right?!)

Almost forgot, here's some Lola greatness...note that my original purpose in videoing this was that Audrey was actually playing in the sandbox (she hates sand) but Lola turned it into something else all together!

    It takes a village people!

WHEN will I learn??!!  I post "good thing Nathan is in town this week" and sure enough something comes up at 5pm last night that required Nate to head to OKC first thing this morning.  On the docket tonight after the 3rd day of school for E?  6-7 pm first practice for Jason, 7:15 game for Ethan (needs to be there by 6:45) and of course they are not in the same place.  I realize this is commonplace for lots of single moms but it was my first night of it and I'm glad it's over.  Did I mention Audrey only had a 1 hour nap today and wasn't on board with being flexible and easy (not that she EVER is!!) AND by the time we got home, showered and in bed it was 9:10? I'm beat and anxious about the crabby kids I'll be living with tomorrow on my own.   Single moms?  YOU RULE!
Anyway, I have GREAT people in my life; I had no worries that it was all gonna get covered because even when my first call was busy, 2 more stepped up with offers and Audrey's awesome nurse didn't hesitate when I called to ask her.  I wish we lived closer to my parents but the family I've adopted here is so amazing I don't think I could give them up!  I'm so thankful, so, so thankful.
We had plans to take the boys to the Cowboys game tomorrow night too (free tix) but will miss that too, they can't go to their first cowboy game without daddy!  I'd be super sad if was a regular season game but after our week so far, we could use a boring, early night!  Is everyone watching HardKnocks?  Lovin' it!

Soccer seemed to agree with Jason tonight, I'd say how excited and proud I am but I know not to jinx it so, my mouth is shut!  Pictures tomorrow.

    I talk a good game

but I nearly cried this afternoon when I picked Ethan up because I was so happy to see him!  I didn't realize I missed him until I saw him again, but man did I!  Jason however was the best at showing Ethan how he felt...Ethan was home about 20 minutes when he threw a calculator at E for no real reason other than to say welcome home, I missed you!
Audrey asked about 10 times this morning where EE was but when he got home didn't seem to notice.  My littles are such a mess!
Our night was crazy with E's first baseball game of the season but fun was had by all AND  Ethan hit a double his second at bat!  It's the first season of kid pitch and E's first season since Audrey came home from the NICU.  We were very proud!  Of course since they won, however, we have another game Wed night.  Jason has his first soccer practice Wed night too.  I'm SO glad Nate decided to stay in town this week!

    Summer is OVER

I long for the time when this is a sad day for me.  I'm sure I'll be crying in my coffee in three years when all three are gone all day, but for now, I'm dancing a jig that Ethan starts school tomorrow!  He's pretty excited too.  The way his face lit up when we walked into school Friday for Meet the Teacher Night was priceless. I can't wait to hear how the first day of 2nd grade goes!

    Adios Summer 2008!

Stop #1 for the crazy train in my head...

Oh y'all!  I have a jillion things to write about but only one has a timeline so it's all you're getting tonight (we spent a marathon day at the zoo and I'm zonked).  I will be back, seriously, I will.  Before another 11 days are up too, really.  Anyway, I need you to read the following plea and PLEASE, PLEASE, do it.  I know there are lots of causes out there, it's SHOCKING to me how many things are out there to steal our kids from us, absolutely shocking.   This action however will only take you 5 minutes, less if you're an online AMEX user (it took me one minute and that was with reading!)  I stole this from my friend's site for his little girl, Hailey who is fighting an inoperable, terminal brain tumor.  They need 10,000 nominations by Aug 30th for a chance at 2.5 million in research dollars; they have less than 2,000 now.  I was #1537.  Let's help them out!

I am writing with an urgent request, because 5 minutes of your time could mean up to $2.5 million donated to PLGA brain tumor research.

As of today, August 18th, the PLGA Foundation is in the running for a HUGE grant from American Express's philanthropic program. The hitch is that we need to get 10,000 people to NOMINATE the project BEFORE August 30th in order to be considered as a candidate for the funds.

This is where we need YOUR help. Nominating is EASY. Just four steps:

    1. Go to http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/NN934A which will automatically bring you to the summary of the "Project Brain Child" project
    2. Click the "NOMINATE PROJECT" button
    3. Sign in (If you are an Amex cardmember use your ONLINE user name and password as if you were viewing your credit card statement. If you are not an Amex cardmember sign in as a "Guest")
    4. Click on "Nominate Project" again to register your vote.

You are done! THIS TAKES 5 MINUTES TO COMPLETE.

For those of you who have time to do a little more.....when you are at http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/NN934A you can also click on the "Discussion Board" link at the bottom of the page and write a message that tells American Express why this is so important. (For example, no funds available, current treatments are toxic and punishing, not to mention ineffective, etc.)

The ultimate thing you could do is reach out to your friends, colleagues, family, and any other groups where you might get the membership to vote for the project as well. (Feel free to also put the request on Facebook,MySpace, etc. page. and ask everyone to do the same.)

The goal is HUGE, but 'viral marketing' can work...if each one of us reaches out to their email contact lists. We stand a chance if we stand together!!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE help us get these funds for PLGA research.

    Thanks so much!

    Hanging tough

Imagine that, my little toughie is jumping around and sayin', "what? I'm fine!"  Of course that only happens when both Tylenol and Motrin are overlapped.  He completely refuses the narcotic (I even considered one of Audrey's old supply of NG tubes!) and so we've had to improvise a pain mgmt strategy.  As long as the meds are in, he's good; haven't been able to get them in overnight though (spits them out etc, any tips?) so the morning is not fun.  Nate is staying through tomorrow, but I'm a little nervous about Tuesday - Thursday am.  Hopefully it will get progressively better.  I have to admit the cuddle time I've gotten has been priceless.  Even better when he refuses daddy for me!  (how pathetic am I?!)  This is Jason though, my "mommy please don't hug me, I don't like hugs, they hurt"; so I'll take it when I can get it.  Seeing him in pain has been rough though.

Grandma and Papa provided LOTS of help including some household chores we never seem to get to (TOTAL bonus!).  The kids couldn't get enough of them either, especially Audrey; poor Grandma must have played Candy Land 10 times and completed at least 20 puzzles!  Audrey's new haircut has increased her sassiness 10-fold, this morning her regular "I do it" or "grandma dot it" turned into (with feet stamping) "NO MOMMY, I SAID GRANDMA DO IT, NOT YOU".  She sat her sassy bottom in time out for that, ugh!

Not much else to share and I'm pooped (hee hee, I love that silly saying!).  Oh yeah...tomorrow is sweet Leah's 3rd birthday!  Head over to her fabulous mama's blog to wish her a happy day and watch a super montage of Leah's three years.    Send some eating thoughts to Mr. Jackson too; crazy kid lost his button and they're trying a go without it!  Super exciting stuff!!!  Eat Jackson eat!!!

Thanks too for your kind input about the blog; still thinking.

    I know, I know

I'm just not good at blogging anymore.  I have great stories to share but forget them when I come here and of course struggle with what the intention of this blog originally was--Audrey's medical info.  Should I pack up and start over somewhere new?  Should I only share what's going on with Audrey medically?  What to do what to do?

For now, I'll give a quick run down of what's new since Lola's arrival

-Check this out first, it's HUGE and CRAZY and AMAZING so I'll wait for you to catch your breath before going on...I'm still in shock too!  Total greatness.

-Cryptosporidium sucks and we (Ethan only thank goodness) had a minor (E may disagree) case here; our friends above didn't fair so well.  It caused much worry, hassle, and headaches here (not to mention severe stomach cramping for E) but we're fine now and the pool is clear (hoping I'm not jinxing it).

-while Lola is super cute, she poops, pees, and chews A LOT; not so fun.  Naming her was great fun though; I didn't talk about that in my last post.  Thanks to everyone who submitted names.  The final cuts were: Fergie, Wilma, Ruby, and of course, LOLA!  The kids really made the final call.

-Audrey is working hard at going "pee pee in the potty".  It's about all she talks about besides her new haircut which is adorable but will also net you potty talk because she used the restroom at the haircut place successfully.  My dad called tonight and when I put her on the phone she says (at 100 miles/hour and all the words slurred together) "i pee pee in potty at haircut place and got haircut"  She's such a funny mess.

In order to get her to pee we've had to increase her liquid boluses significantly; she was only taking in about 35% - 50% of her liquid needs before so we're trying to figure out what is acceptable, it's SO frustrating trying to figure this stuff out.  The experts (drs. and dieticians and therapists) have differing opinions.  For the last 2 days we've been bolusing her (giving her liquid in her button) every 1.5 hrs.  Obviously this isn't a good option as it's not natural but it was the only way to see what her body would do with proper hydration.  We saw a difference in urine output but really nothing else.  Who knows?! If you have any ideas, throw them out there.  She doesn't drink much on her own.

-going to Six Flags in 105 degree heat isn't as bad as you'd think.  It was definately not something we'll do again, but we did have fun.

-not much is fun when it's 105 degrees out (like it has been forever here) but it did make days like today (only 94) seem like spring or something!

-Nate pulled a super husband award this week for coming home early from OKC; I like to think we're fine with our new schedule of him being gone every week but it still wears on us and when we get him home unexpectedly, it's a nice change!

-not having a kitchen sink (our faucet broke last night and the part to fix it won't be here til Friday) puts a damper on your day

-Jason, my spirited, uber-clever, ever-challenging, and lucky-he's-so cute, sweet boy is having his tonsils and adenoids removed on Friday morning.  Despite my seasoned experience with kids having surgery, it's still something I'd rather not do.  Please wish him an easy recovery and send Nate and I some energy to be patient and loving to all three while he recovers.  My super parents have rearranged their schedules so they can come help out this weekend.  We are all eager for their arrival.

I'm going to think more about the blog's future and I'll hopefully be back soon.  Have a great weekend.
